Workplace suspension in South Africa is the phenomenon which though is more of a legal issue it has psycho-social impact to individuals, families, and organisations. In this study, the researcher will explore the empirical and theoretical aspects of this phenomenon by reviewing available literature, interviewing subjects affected by workplace suspension to answer research questions that will lead to new theories, and contributing to existing theories using scientific research approaches and procedures.

In  recent news, the South African Receiver of Revenue has apologised to its employees who were suspended and eventually unfairly dismissed between 2014 and 2018 for the psychological and financial harm caused by the employer and has since concluded an internal reparations process against targeted employees (Eye News, November 14, 2022).
